How to use it
- Choose a mitred elbow or a tee/branch connection.
- Enter the pipe outside diameter, the angle and, for an elbow, the number of pieces and the bend radius.
- Mark the ordinates at equal divisions around the pipe, or print the template at 100% and wrap it around the pipe.
Worked example
A two-piece 90° elbow on a 114.3 mm pipe has each end cut at 45°. The cut line rises and falls by the pipe diameter times tan 45°, so the longest and shortest sides of each piece differ by 114.3 mm.
Tips from the shop
Use the outside diameter for the cut line and grind the bevel afterwards. Number the divisions on the template and on the pipe, so the template cannot be wrapped the wrong way.
Frequently asked questions
How many pieces for a mitred 90° elbow?
Two pieces give a sharp corner; three to five pieces give a smoother bend with less pressure loss. Each extra piece adds one weld.
How do I print the template to scale?
Print at 100% (no fit-to-page) and check the printed scale bar with a ruler before cutting.
